How has GGC helped prepare you for where you are today?
GGC’s faculty was very supportive and motivational to me. I learned to look outside of the boundaries of what I expect from myself and the world, and to create and explore new options. The Studies Abroad trip brought theories and concepts I had learned in books and by memorization to life, and taught me to think of business in a very real and global way.
Favorite professor at GGC:
Dr. Peppas was my favorite professor. His International Business class was very interactive and thought provoking. He was also the professor on my Studies Abroad trip, and I feel honored to have had him on that trip. He had a style of teaching that was direct at times, but that was also conducive to self discovery and self learning. He and Mrs. Peppas are two of the very most influential people to have ever been in my life and I couldn’t be more proud to be associated with them. They continue to provide me with guidance and support even after graduation.
Community Involvement:
I have worked with over ten organizations spanning ten years. I have worked with Gwinnett Sexual Assault and Children’s Advocacy Center for the longest consecutive period - since 2006. I am a volunteer victim advocate on call through the nights and weekends. I respond to our center regarding cases of acute sexual assault within Gwinnett and a few other counties. We provide free comprehensive services to victims and families impacted by crimes of sexual assault and child sexual/physical abuse.
What’s next?
I am currently in graduate school at the University of Georgia’s Fast Track MBA program. I had actually never considered graduate school at all, until the professors at GGC pushed me to think about it. I am planning on going on the Studies Abroad trip with UGA to China in 2013, and graduating in August of 2013 as well. In the next 10 years, I would like to do something quantifiable to make a difference in society. I want to be able to look back and know that something I did will have a large and lasting impact on others.
